THE PECULIARITIES OF DETECTIVE VOCABULARY USAGE IN THE SCREEN VERSIONS AFTER ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE’S WORKS ABOUT SHERLOCK HOLMES IN WORLD CINEMATOGRAPHY

Abstract

The given article regards the peculiarities of the detective vocabulary usage in the fiction works about Sherlock Holmes filming in the world cinematography in the diachronic aspect.The specific attention is paid to the modern screen versions of the given works. The analysis of the factors, which allow to divide the screen versions about Sherlock Holmes into the certain stages according to the definite features and the reference to the historic epoch. The first film was made in the USA in 1900. The general number of the films about Sh. Holmes is 210 versions. This fact is registered in the Guiness Book of Records. In general the number of the countries where the most films about the legendary detective are made can be limited to the three ones the USA, Britain and Russia. Of course the Britain screen versions are considered the most true to life and the closest to the оriginal source. The popularity of Sh. Holmes is so great that according to the social poll every fifth Britishman thinks that Sherlock Holmes is a real human being.
