LEXEMES OF CHARITABLE DISCOURSE: TRANSLATION FEATURES AND LINGUOSTYLISTIC ADAPTATION

Abstract

Translation of texts in the field of charity has become highly sought after today due to the increasing globalization of humanitarian movements and the proliferation of organizations working on social, humanitarian or religious goals. In an interconnected world where humanitarian crises transcend borders, cooperation between actors and beneficiaries requires effective linguistic mediation that takes into account cultural differences. Charities and NGOs must address multilingual and multicultural audiences, giving translation a fundamental role in conveying messages of solidarity, compassion and mutual aid. However, translating charity discourse is not simply a matter of lexical or semantic transfer: it is a deeply cultural and ideological process. The tokens of charity, which often convey moral, spiritual and emotional values, require stylistic and pragmatic adaptation in order to maintain their impact on the target reader. Therefore, translation must balance linguistic accuracy and cultural sensitivity, while respecting the ethical and humanistic intentions of the original text. In this sense, it becomes a space for negotiations between languages, cultures and values. The authors attempt to understand how the notion of solidarity and humanity is constructed and transmitted in different linguistic contexts. The article attempts to shed light on the responsibility of the translator, who is called upon to convey a message that expresses emotions, compassion and universal values, while avoiding ideological or cultural distortions, as well as to identify and systematize the lexical and stylistic features of the translation of English-language terms of the charitable and nongovernmental sector into Ukrainian by analyzing their functioning in the relevant discourse. The translation of charitable discourse appears as a privileged field of research where linguistics, translation studies and the ethics of intercultural communication intersect.
