TERM AND PROFESSIONALISM IN MODERN ENGLISH TERMINOLOGY OF PRODUCTION AUTOMATION
Abstract
The article is devoted to a comprehensive study of terms and professionalisms within the modern English terminology system of production automation as an important component of professional language. The relevance of the work is due to the intensive development of automated production technologies, which is accompanied by an active update of special vocabulary and the urgent need for its organization, standardization and unification in order to ensure accurate and effective professional communication. The paper examines the theoretical foundations of studying professional language and professional speech and outlines the main approaches to the analysis of terminological vocabulary in contemporary linguistics. The concept of professional speech is clarified and interpreted as a non-standardized, variable form of the functioning of specialized vocabulary that is formed within professional communities under the influence of psychological, cognitive, and linguistic factors. Special attention is paid to the problem of distinguishing between terms and professionalisms which, despite their common belonging to specialized vocabulary, differ in the degree of normativity, specific spheres of use, and functional purpose. Based on a corpus of modern English terminology in the field of production automation, the main types of professionalisms are analyzed, including lexical variants of terms, abbreviated professionalisms, and phraseological units. It is proved that the key distinguishing features of professionalisms are their emotional and expressive coloring and the limited scope of their use, which makes it possible to clearly differentiate them from codified terminological units. It should be noted that professionalisms perform an important communicative function, contributing to the simplification and economy of language means. The study concludes that the terminology system of production automation is dynamic and multilevel in nature and is closely connected with the living linguistic practice of specialists. Prospects for further research are outlined, in particular those related to the analysis of the morphological features of lexical units within this terminology system.
