ENGLISH PHRASES NOMINATING DONALD TRUMP'S ACTIVITY: LINGUISTIC AND SOCIO-CULTURAL ASPECTS
Abstract
The article is devoted to the identification of extra- and intralinguistic factors of new phrases creation in Modern American English. It is stated that Donald Trump's pre-election activity and first steps of presidency caused creation of new phrases associated with him. On the basis of etymological analysis of relevant phrasal units the sociocultural parameters of new phrase innovations were determined. As a result of structural and semantic analysis of new phrasal nominations, the mechanisms of their creation were identified. The basic mechanisms of the new phrases formation are: 1) modification of a standard English phrase by substituting of one of its components; 2) creation of new phrases by analogy with standard ones; 3) phraseologizing of free word-combinations.
