REVISITING CLASSIFICATION OF ENGLISH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS WITH ANTHROPONYMIC COMPONENT

Abstract

The article is devoted to the concept of phraseological units, the main approaches to classification, investigation of the essence of english fixed phrases with anthroponymic component and offers its own classification according to various criteria. The relevance of the study is based on the interest in phraseology and anthroponyms as component of phraseologism which reflects, in particular, culture, traditions, history of the country and the worldview of the native speakers. The attempt to classify this kind of english idioms is of a particular interest because there is no complete typology in the scientific literature.The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that english phraseological units are the subject of classification according to several criteria (etymological, linguocultural, thematic, structure) for the first time. The main tasks of the research embrace the review of the approaches to the notion of phraseological unit and its classification, analysis of english idioms with anthroponymic component, definition of lingual and cultural role of anthroponym as a part of phraseologism, developing typologies, the definition of further research. Present investigation confirmed the importantce of anthroponym as a part of idiom and as a carrier of important background knowledge related to the english-speaking countries, its history, culture, way of life. In addition, it was found out that the majority of english phraseological units with anthroponym has a close connection with the etymology. The proposed classification of phraseological units with anthroponym are indisputable proof of the fact that most of them have common features and are easily grouped according to certain cultural, semantic and structural qualities.
