STYLISTIC FEATURES OF THE ARAMISMS USE IN WORKS OF I. FRANKO (BASED ON INTERPRETATIONS OF ARABIC FAIRYTALES “KOVAL BASSIM” AND “ABU-KASYMOVI KAPTSI”)

Abstract

The article analyses stylistic features of the Arabisms use in works by Ivan Franko. The research is based on his interpretations of Arabic fairytales “Abu-Kasymovi kaptsi” (Abu-Kasim’s Slippers) and “Koval Bassim”(Bassim the Blacksmith). The subject of research is represented by stylistic capacity of lexical units borrowed from the Arabic language in poetic works by the classicist of the Ukrainian literature I. Franko. The object of the research is chosen stories by the author – his interpretations of Arabic fairytales “Koval Bassim” and “Abu-Kasymovi kaptsi”. The aim of the research is to determine stylistic peculiarities of the Arabisms use in chosen stories by I. Franko. The main goals of the research are the following: to define stylistic features of the Arabisms use in fairytales “Abu-Kasymovi kaptsi” and “Koval Bassim”; to determine the relationship between the Arabisms and native Ukrainian lexicon in these works; to describe how the use of the Arabisms affects the perception of the fairytales texts. The article deals with the analysis of Ivan Franko’s individual style with due regard for the Arabisms use as the predominant lexical units that form stylistic figures in fairytales. Special attention is given to the issue of stylistic capacity of the tropes that are expressed with the use of the Arabisms and creation of the unique oriental stylistics in fairytales by Ivan Franko. It has been found that the main stylistic figures in chosen works are rhetorical question, apostrophe, refrain, inversion, enantiosis, epithet, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, gradation, polysyndeton and amplification. The author chose the Arabisms as lexical units that form oriental stylistics in Franko’s fairytales to create stylistic figures mentioned. Furthermore, this research covers the issue of interpenetration between cultures of East and West. It appears that the Arabisms, despite their exoticism, are organically combined with native vocabulary of the Ukrainian language and dialectisms. We have found that Ivan Franko had been able to reveal artistic sense of his fairytales “Abu-Kasymovi kaptsi” and “Koval Bassim” and taken his reader to the mystery world of the Middle East with the use of different lexicon layers. The results of the research can be used in the further studies of the peculiarities of the Arabisms that became a part of the Ukrainian language through the works of Ukrainian literature and their artistic use.
