PECULIARITIES OF ENGLISH NOMINATIONS OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF GOODS IN THE CUSTOMS SPHERE
Abstract
The article deals with diverse ways of actualizing one of the widespread concepts in the Customs sphere, that is the concept “goods”. Being a meaningful concept among others correlating to the Customs domain, the concept “goods” stands out as a constituent of the basic concept “Customs”.
The topicality of the research is conditioned by importance of a profound study of the concept “goods”. It is worthwhile noting that there has been a lack of researches into the lingual features of the English terminological units to denote different kinds of goods, which cross the state borders of countries. In view of this fact, the study suggested below turns out to be of current interest. Thus the object of the article are terminological word combinations that represent the concept “goods” as well as other concepts related to it.
The concept “goods” has a whole range of synonymous terms. In this regard the author turns to a wide variety of synonymic representations of the concepts which actualize different kinds of goods. Among terminological units which verbalize the concept “exported goods” the author mentions “non-controlled” goods” or “innocent” goods”.
It goes without saying that the choice of synonym depends upon the underlined aspect used to convey the meaning. Export goods are often interpreted as “non-controlled” goods due to the pragmatic view since even a large quantity of export goods will never do any harm to the country’s budget. Sometimes export goods can be referred to as legitimate goods that is non-contraband and in this way the terminological word combination “innocent” goods verbalize the concept “export goods”.
For that matter, a particular attention has been paid to other synonymic terms to designate concepts that actualize different types of goods. The author comes to the conclusion that the verbalization of concepts related to different types of goods in the English Customs sphere is carried out by using terminological word combinations of different semantic content.
