PARTICULARITIES OF TRANSLATING INCLUSIVE DISCOURSE TERMINOLOGY

Abstract

In modern linguistics, inclusive discourse attracts considerable scholarly attention because it reflects current social trends toward equality, nondiscrimination, and respect for the diversity of social groups. Inclusive language seeks to avoid biased, stigmatizing, or discriminatory expressions and to ensure respectful representation of people regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, physical abilities, or social status. In the context of expanding international communication and the increasing importance of translation in academic, institutional, and public domains, the issue of adequately rendering the terms of inclusive discourse in different languages has become especially relevant. The article explores the transfer of inclusive terminology and proposes its thematic grouping according to semantic and functional features. Particular attention is given to the difficulties that arise when translating notions related to inclusive education, accessibility, and social integration, since such concepts are deeply embedded in cultural values and institutional practices. The study analyses key terms that shape the contemporary understanding of inclusion, including diversity, accessibility, and inclusive learning environment. Its theoretical framework combines discourse analysis with comparative text study, making it possible to examine both semantic content and contextual use. The paper identifies the main translation strategies applied to inclusive vocabulary, namely euphemisation, descriptive translation, transliteration, calquing, and adaptation. It also demonstrates that the choice of translation strategy depends not only on lexical equivalence, but also on pragmatic effect, cultural sensitivity, and the social acceptability of the target expression. Furthermore, the study traces the close relationship between linguistic choices and value orientations in society, showing that language does not merely reflect inclusion but actively shapes public attitudes toward it. The findings indicate that inclusive discourse contributes to social development, strengthens support for diverse population groups, and promotes the implementation of the principles of equality, accessibility, and respect for human dignity.
