INTERTEXTUALITY IN PROFESSIONAL DISCOURSE
Abstract
The article is devoted to a comprehensive study of intertextuality in professional discourse as a key category of modern discourse analysis and an important mechanism for organizing professional communication. The relevance of the study is determined by the insufficient systematization of approaches to the analysis of intertextual relations within professional speech, despite considerable scholarly attention to this phenomenon in literary, media, and publicistic discourses. The paper outlines the theoretical foundations for the study of intertextuality, clarifies its place within the structure of professional discourse, and characterizes the specifics of its realization under the conditions of normativity, standardization, and institutional determination of professional communication. Based on the analysis of legal, regulatory, analytical, and managerial texts, the main types of intertextuality are identified, namely explicit, implicit, interdiscursive, and hypertextual. Accordingly, the models of their realization are proposed: normative-referential, interpretative-analytical, template-precedent, and multimodal-hypertextual. It is demonstrated that intertextual elements perform a complex of interrelated functions, including referential-legitimizing, informative-structuring, cognitive-integrative, argumentative, standardizing, navigational, and interpretative ones. These functions ensure textual coherence, logical organization, compliance with institutional norms, and the effective transmission of professional knowledge. The article also reveals the pragmatic potential of intertextuality, manifested in its ability to optimize professional communication through linguistic economy, increased accuracy of interpretation, regulation of interaction between communicative participants, and enhancement of argumentative impact. The role of intertextuality in shaping discursive identity and ensuring the interactivity of professional communication is also outlined. It is concluded that intertextuality is a system-forming factor of professional discourse, ensuring its structural organization, semantic integrity, and pragmatic effectiveness, as well as serving as a necessary condition for the transmission, interpretation, and development of knowledge in the modern communicative space.
