TAXONOMY OF LANDSCAPE IMAGES IN THE ENGLISH LITERARY DISCOURSE
Abstract
This article focuses on the poetic images of silence in the English literary discourse. It explores the actualization of this phenomenon on the lexical and syntactic levels, the features of formation and functioning of this image in the English poetry of 18-20 centuries. Modern linguistics tendency characterized by wide interest to the problems of silence in non-verbal communication. One should noted that such communication is connected with verbal one. Lifeless nature and its symbols on the field of the English literary discourse have the ability to transform in real producers of poetic silence. Literary discourse is marked by wide amplitude of scientific experiments in which poetic image is general and substantial. Poetic images concern man, nature, individual phenomena, which form the cultural space mediating between the individual and society. We try to identify such concepts as "image", "literary image", "verbal-poetic image", defines the verbalpoetic image of silence, which is based on the concept of Nature Silence, which is the element of communication. It became clear that the phenomenon of Nature Silence can be actualized with the help of nature and other landscape images on the field of the English literary discourse. Such images must belong to the paradigm of English landscape images and represented by substantial nature symbols, such as Earthy, Aerial and Celestial. In terms of discourse-communicative approach to the study of communicative silence, these elements play an important role of the main producers of Nature Silence. The main verbal units that can actualize the poetic image of silence are characterized by the permanent correlation with the different symbols of nature, show the dominant and peripheral characteristics, contain absolute or non-absolute silence and belong to silent vocabulary of nature symbols. This work proposes the new pragmatic and communicative approach of understanding the Nature silence in the English literary discourse.
