SENTENCES WITH MULTICOMPONENT SERIES OF HOMOGENEOUS PREDICATES IN “THE WEDDING DAY” BY CATHERINE ALLIOTT
Abstract
In recent decades, there have been significant changes in the perception of language, speech activity and novels as a product of this activity. The systematic interaction of means and methods of actualization of units of different levels, which form the structure of a novel, is composed by the writer. The intention of the author determines the structure, form and content of the novel. The analysis of the novel requires special attention to the integral text, the components of which are embedded in the author's discourse and are characterized by structural, semantic and functional changes. The article analyzes the structure of sentences with homogeneous predicates in the novel on the basis of meaningful information. Semantic arrangement of sentences with homogeneous predicates in the syntax of the novel analyzed is revealed within the semantic, communicative and emotionally expressive aspects. The communicative functions of sentences with homogeneous predicates in the text are examined. The sentences with a number of predicates as a marker of dynamics and statics are reviewed. The article highlights the nature of the temporal relations between predicates with different syntactic connections and their stylistic relevance in terms of rhythm in a sentence with a series of homogeneous predicates. In the paper, on the basis of sentences with homogeneous verbal predicates, it is seen how the text contains the subject as a producer of an action, due to the writer's attitude to what is happening in the novel as well as to the image of a character not from the character’s point of view but rather from the point of view of the author. The paper analyzes the predicates of state, which are necessary for the psychological analysis of the characters, their inner world and mood, and disclosure of psychological motives that determine certain actions. The predicates of motion that move the story forward are described, too. Most homogeneous parts of sentences appear as simple verb predicates. Morphological arrangement of homogeneous main parts of the sentences is different depending on the type of the sentence. Verbal forms of the Past Tense are predominant in the examples provided.
