The purpose and tasks of the article are to deepen the existing approaches to the “concept”, to analyze the structure of the concept EDUCATION in the texts of the English media discourse. The subject and object of research is the concept EDUCATION and its structure in the texts of the English media discourse. The paper considers the approaches to the concept definition, as well as provides the theoretical foundations regarding the structure of the concept. Also, the structure of the concept EDUCATION in the texts of the English media discourse was considered, namely, its main components: the core (an archiseme of the concept – a semantic component of the highest order, which organizes the semantic deployment of the field around it), the basis and periphery. It was found that concepts are the result of a person’s knowledge of the world through various types of activities and socialization. It includes the certain components that form a complete picture: these are subject activity, sensory experience, language knowledge, operations with concepts that arose earlier, and knowledge of language units. In the paper, the following components of the concept of EDUCATION were identified: 1) core: EDUCATION; 2) basis: EDUCATION – THE ACT OR PROCESS OF ACQUIRING KNOWLEDGE; EDUCATION – TEACHING / RESEARCH; EDUCATION – LEARNING; EDUCATION – PEDAGOGY / PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICE; 3) periphery: EDUCATION-SCHOOLING; EDUCATION-TRAINING; EDUCATIONDEVELOPMENT; EDUCATION – COACHING; EDUCATION – IMPROVEMENT; EDUCATION – DISCIPLINE; EDUCATION – TUTORING; EDUCATION – NURTURE; EDUCATION – TUITION; EDUCATION – ENLIGHTENMENT; EDUCATION – ERUDITION; EDUCATION – EDIFICATION; EDUCATION – E-LEARNING OR ELEARNING. It was noted that the paper can become the basis for further analysis of the structure of the concept EDUCATION in other types of discourse, as well as a contrasting analysis of the structure of the concept of EDUCATION in different types of discourse.
