THE CONCEPT OF “GALICIA” AS THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL BACKGROUND FOR SCIENTIFIC INVESTIGATIONS OF LITERARY STUDIES DIRECTION

Abstract

The article starts a cycle of publications about Bruno Schulz’s relationship with Galicia, in which the author has set the goal of analyzing the concepts of Galicia, borderland, Galician literary borderland, Galicianness and outlining the place of Bruno Schulz’s creative heritage in them, in particular, finding out the influence of Galicia on Schulz and, conversely, Schulz on Galicia, characterizing their mutual relationships. The first article is devoted to revealing the essence of the cognitive concept of Galicia with emphasis on Schulz’s period – the end of the 19th – the first half of the 20th century. The “conceptual” format of the representation of the research results has been chosen due to the possibility of a comprehensive objective and impartial generalization and structuring of multi-disciplinary information of the Galician direction in literary studies. The terminological meaning is clarified and a working interpretation of the notion concept is offered, which can be successfully used in scientific investigations of the literary direction. In the ontologization of the concept of Galicia, both the generally accepted information of the generalizing direction is represented in a systematized and clearly structured form, and the author’s individual new interpretations, which in the future will contribute to a thorough study and understanding of the cognitive-orientation pair Galicia ↔ Bruno Schulz, whose members are in complex relationships of the similarity and opposition. The analysis of the semantic load of the concept of Galicia in all its diversity gives reason to include it among cross-cutting interdisciplinary ones connected with various scientific branches and spheres of activity. The exteriorization of the concept of Galicia “pulls up” the realization of the concepts of borderland, Galician borderland, Galicianness, Galician literary borderland, and Galician literature, the study of which the next article of the outlined cycle, the content of which will be a logical continuation and essential addition to scientific research on the concept of Galicia will be devoted to.
