Abstract

The article addresses a linguocultural approach to the process of coining American English phrasal innovations of the last decade of the XXIst century in the sphere of business. Actuality of the study is determined by the necessity of a more profound analysis of the phenomenon of American materialism which has undergone objective stages of conceptualization in the course of its cultural and historic development and fixed in the cognitive and communicative field of American English native speakers as a linguocultural concept of the same name.

Identification of the concept of MATERIALISM field constituents presents the research object, while modern American English phraseological innovations representing “business” segment are viewed as its subject. Innovational linguistic processes are considered as a result of the language macrosystem development, the latter being a product of its interrelation and interaction with culture. Innovational phraseological units are treated as linguoculturemes, which make field structures and represent the segment of «business» as one of the most productive linguocultural spheres providing language innovations.

As the conducted analysis of the American English phrasal neologisms demonstrates, concentration of the latter around “business” axiologeme’s components correlates, one way or another, with sixteen sociofunctional clusters of economics vocabulary, what is conditioned by such social and economic factors as globalization, introduction of informational technologies into business spheres, as well as macro- and microeconomic relations and structures reforming.

Conclusion is made about actuality of the field method application aimed at analyzing the ways of the American English conceptual world picture constituent recording, as well as at a more profound study of phraseological units, which belong to various sociofunctional spheres of the language variant in question. The authors hold the view that ultimate dictionary registering of that American English vocabulary component which correlates with its speakers’ rational lifestyle idea and is presented by phrasal neologisms of the economics and business sphere allows to sufficiently expand the non-English speakers’ notion of the American materialism and business as its constituent in particular.
