TRANSLATION FEATURES OF TECHNICAL TERMINOLOGY IN THE OPERATING MANUALS (ON THE EXAMPLE OF BRAUN AND LG PRODUCTS)

Abstract

The article analyzes the features of technical terms translation in the operating manuals of electronic and electrical appliances mady by Braun and LG companies. It is believed that the relevance of research on adequate and effective selection of translation transformations is due to the underdeveloped language layer of specialized scientific and technical vocabulary during the rapid development of Ukrainian international relations in the science and technology fields. It contains an overview of the main translation transformations that can be used by a translator when working on the terms translation in texts connected with the household appliances operation. In addition, our own translation of technical terms into Ukrainian was offered in clear cases of the selected translation inappropriateness. As a result of the research, the main difficulties and possible errors in the translation of English technical terms were identified. A technical term is a word that has a specific meaning within a certain field of knowledge. It is noted that adequate written translation of technical terms requires coordinated cooperation between translator, experienced editor and a specialist in the chosen field, so operating manuals become accessible and understandable to the user and fully correspond to the original text. The correct interaction of technical terms with the lexical environment of the text is possible in case of careful Ukrainian equivalents selection, resulting in rapid reader perception of the necessary information and the completion of the actual purpose of writing instructions – acquaintance with the device operation, its assembly and methods of adjustment or incorrect operation correction. According to the results of the analysis, the difficulty of translating technical terminological units is in the formation of a clear terminological base in the field of household electronic and electrical appliances, so as to avoid calking from the Russian language and any other inadequacy in translation. The article includes the comparison of the translations variability of identical technical terminological units in the texts presented by selected companies. As a result, a vision of solving the problem of technical terms translation was formed, particularly in the operating instructions of Braun and LG.
