Abstract

The article deals with specific features of the semantic structure of determinative substantive compounds, determines the role of the first direct components (DC) of the compound structure while forming its semantics and defines presence and type of internal predication. As the first DCs of the compound structure in the German language demonstrate diversity of stems of speech parts, diversity of the first DC compound structure can be anticipated as well. The research involves analysis of direct components of the compound structure. Specific character of German terminological compounds demonstrates uneven productivity of various parts of speech as the first components of a compound structure. Subordinate syntactic relations between components are a precondition for a compound functioning as a nominative unit. Determining relations between compound components is a semantic operation that specifies semantics of a basic component through semantics of a determining one. This semantic operation is connected with internal predication of a compound structure, with the type of associations between categories which are reflected in a compound structure. Transformational analysis and the semantic conclusion method enable determining presence of atomic predicates in the compound structure that motivate addition of the next component and influence syntagmatics of a compound structure. Specification of compounds meanings, restoration of atomic predicates are performed through addressing compound stems and related concepts. Applying an atomic predicate, a compound as a nomination form combines two notions (meanings of both components). Main models of a semantic structure of terms-compounds are singled out on the basis of the determined semantic characteristics of direct components. The range of main semantic categories relevant to the logical-conceptual system of German mining terminology is determined.
