A TELEOLOGICAL REFLEXEME AS A PROBABILISTIC COMPONENT OF THE SEMANTIC STRUCTURE OF THE WORD

Keywords: moral teleology, heuristics, political discourse, linguistic semiotics, transformation, semantic structure, potential infinity

Abstract

The analysis of purpose driven transformations in the semantic structure of a word in the English language political discourse is in the focus of this article. The need to highlight the specificity and the factors of actualization of probabilistic components of the semantic structure of a word with the reliance on the tenets of the post-non-classical scientific thought determined the topicality of this research. In the environment of uncertainty the evaluative and purpose related factors take on added significance. The research is based on the principles and methods of moral teleology with reference to the postnon- classical scientific reflection and categories and ideas of teleological linguistic semiotics. The hypothesis has been postulated as to the teleologically determined potential infinity of transformations of the semantic structure of a socially sensitive word in political discourse. The potential probabilistic infinity of transformations in the semantic structure of a word in the English language political discourse is determined by logical and specifically by the evaluative and purpose related (teleological) factors. The term “reflexeme” presupposes the heuristic nature of the word meaning construal. A new term “a teleological reflexeme” has been introduced. It denotes a teleologically determined potential component of the semantic structure of a word which functions as a means of discourse realization of teleological reflection. The actualization of teleological reflexemes in the English language political discourse relies on teleological explanations and teleological descriptions.
