Abstract

The paper deals with the fractal properties of the lexico-semantic field SPACE on its structural and semantic levels from the synergetic point of view. Within this article, the term “fractal” is used in the meaning “created according to a certain pattern”, “bearing self-resemblance”. The fractal theory is based on the assumption that there exist certain creative energy that constitutes the things of the objective reality according to creative patterns. This theory has universal character because many objects of our universe can be considered as fractal ones. Thus, it can be successfully implemented for the research of the self-organization process of the lexico-semantic field SPACE. From the one perspective, the structure of the analyzed lexico-semantic field on the micro level mirrors its macrostructure, that proves its fractal nature. From another - the fractal essence of this lexico-semantic field reveals itself on the level of word-formation. This level is argued to have fractal properties, which can be proved by the analysis of word rows, chains and families within the framework of the analyzed lexico-semantic field. It is claimed that certain word-forming affixes have certain lexico-grammatical meaning. In this respect, the words, which are constituted by them, bear self-resemblance, which, from synergetic point of view, indicates their fractal character. This property of field constituents plays a paramount role in its self-organization because the self-resembling nature of lexemes underlies their semantic and morphological motivation/ This fact enables quick transition of the newly-coined words into the scope of general lexis. The fractal nature of the analyzed lexico-semantic field also reveals itself through the compound units, the structure of which resembles their parts. All in all the word-forming level of language is claimed to have fractal nature, which is realized through the self-organizing patterns, which exist in lingual system.
