THE REPRODUCTION OF EPITHET CONSTRUCTION IN THE PARABLE “RICH DAD, POOR DAD” BY R. T. KIYOSAKI
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the reproduction of an epithet within the English-Ukrainian translation of the parable “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by R. T. Kioisaki. It was translated by N. Shevchenko-Herbish. In this work we will consider the following: the notion of epithet according to different scholarly approaches, classification and functions in stylistics, ways and strategies of epithet constructions translation, basic characteristic of R. T. Kiyosaky literary style, individual style and techniques of rendering epithet constructions implemented in the translation. Literary detail in the translated text, semantic and authorial content are vital for the translation analysis of the work. Epithet and epithet constructions are important components of the linguistic aspect of our world. Therefore, at the present stage of development of translation studies it is important to take into account the need for the best possible reproduction and transmission of individual elements of the artistic text of the source language. An epithet, as a multifaceted means of the stylistic level, requires from us special transformations, understanding and use of techniques. The specificity of this book in the original language is vivid descriptions, statements and examples. It is important for the translator to be able to maintain this brightness and give the reader the same reason for creativity and reflection. Epithet constructions are responsible for this. The primacy of the dynamics of the plot depends on the skill of understanding and the ability to reproduce its essence by a translator. N. Herbish’s use of stylistic devices clearly conveys to us what the author meant. The semantic relationship and connection between the two versions – the original and the translation – cannot always be preserved. It is necessary not only to provide an “emotional” translation, but also to outline and convey the semantic content of constructions and demonstrate capacity. Working with this translation gives us the opportunity to study and identify ways of transferring epithet constructions, offer a structured classification, trace the process of creating unique and original phrases, expressions and explain the style of the Ukrainian language and the diversity of translation possibilities.
