Abstract

The article is aimed at studying the main difficulties which arise during translating of audiomedia texts from English into Russian. Despite the fact that film translation has existed since the moment of the appearance of cinematograph it hasn’t got enough scientific research as a special kind of translation activity yet. Nowadays foreign production represents a significant proportion of our domestic film market. That’s why it is necessary to investigate thoroughly all the existing approaches to the translating of audiomedia texts with the aim of elaborating a system of translating such type of texts. We explored the basic requirements for this kind of translation such as the proportionality of the cue of translation and original, the reproduction of realities or their replacement with more comprehensible analogues of the recipient language culture, the reproduction of humour taking into account specific features of the translation country mentality, the reproduction of associative proper nouns, the reproduction of interjections, onomatopoetic vocabulary and so on. Hence, we can see the most important problems of film translation. They are as follows: firstly, the translation of audiomedia text is determined not only by the presence of certain linguistic means but also by paralinguistic factors; secondly, phrases should be constructed as compactly as possible because in the process of translating from English into Russian the number of words usually increases; thirdly, since film text is represented almost only by dialogue, it is necessary to reproduce colloquial style in the process of translating; fourthly, film translation involves certain level of compression of source material with maintaining its meaning. As a result of the study we found out that paralinguistic factors play the most important role in the process of translating audiomedia texts.
